Abstract

Syzygium polyanthum (bay leaf) has long been utilized traditionally to treat various ailments, including diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and gastritis. This study aims to isolate active compounds from the leaves of Syzygium polyanthum through the maceration method using ethanol as a solvent, followed by fractionation and purification via column chromatography. The isolation process yielded crystals/powder, which were subsequently characterized using FTIR spectroscopy to identify the functional groups. Phytochemical screening results indicated the presence of flavonoids, tannins, and terpenoids
