Shale gas is a type of non-conventional energy source that has become a major focus in the global energy industry. Through horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing (fracking) technologies, shale gas has successfully transformed the energy production landscape, particularly in countries like the United States. In Indonesia, although the potential for shale gas is significant, the development of this sector faces various challenges, including technological, regulatory, and environmental issues. This paper aims to explore the shale gas resource potential in Indonesia, analyze the challenges faced in its development, and evaluate the possible social, economic, and environmental impacts. Additionally, this study seeks to provide policy recommendations that can promote the sustainable utilization of shale gas.
